42Crmo4 QT Carbonitriding organization

The carbonitriding organization of 42CrMo4 quenched and tempered steel has a boss who specializes in repairing excavators in Guangzhou.

He often visit and buy 42CrMo4 forged steel as a pin shaft. The pin shaft is mostly used for the connection between two components in construction machinery parts to meet the relative movement between components.

Generally, the pin shaft needs to work under great pressure and friction environment, Therefore, the pin steel must have very high hardness, strength, toughness and other properties.

As a material surface strengthening technology, carbonitriding is a heat treatment process method to infiltrate carbon and nitrogen atoms into the surface of parts at the same time.

Compared with a single carburizing process, it has the characteristics of short production cycle, low temperature and small part deformation, and has been widely used in production.

1) After the adoption of carbonitriding process, the structure of 42CrMo4 quenched steel changes, and a layer of carbon nitride compound layer is generated on the surface. The carbon nitride compound layer has good comprehensive mechanical properties, which can improve the overall plastic toughness of the pin shaft. The 42CrMo quenched steel can be strengthened to resist the harsh environment outside, which is more conducive to production practice.

2) After surface hardening treatment, the surface hardness of the material reaches 650 HV, the tensile strength is about 1120 MPa, and the average impact toughness is 84 J/cm2. The improved process of carbonitriding keeps the core of the material with good toughness, but also greatly improves the surface strength and hardness.

3) The effect of microstructure change on mechanical properties of 42CrMo4 quenched and tempered steel was studied by carburizing process. It has high scientific research value and guiding significance to engineering practice.
